The Real Test Behind Laghu Parāśarī Śloka 14

Two good planets sit in the same chart.

Every astrologer reaches for the word.

Laghu Parāśarī asks a question before anyone’s allowed to use it.

Do they actually have Sambandha?

The Rule

Laghu Parāśarī, Śloka 14 (Chapter 3, Yogādhyāya) — “When there exist mutual relationship (Sambandha) between the lords of Kendra and Trikoṇa houses and their second sign does not fall in any house other than Kendra or Trikoṇa, they give extraordinarily good Yoga Karaka results.”

Two conditions, not one. First, the Kendra lord (houses 1, 4, 7, 10) and the Trikoṇa lord (houses 1, 5, 9) need a genuine Sambandha — a real bond. Second, if either planet also owns another house, that ownership matters too. Śloka 14 prefers planets whose additional lordship remains within Kendra or Trikoṇa.

Sambandha isn’t “sitting in the same chart.” It’s one of three specific things:

  • Conjunction — the two planets occupy the same house together.
  • Aspect — the two planets look at each other, by mutual planetary aspect.
  • Exchange (Parivartana) — each planet sits in the sign the other one owns.

That’s it. No Sambandha, no Rajayoga — no matter how auspicious the two houses look on paper.

The Parāśarī Insight

Vasudev’s commentary, citing Pt. Sitaram Jha, gives the cleanest possible version of this rule: the 5th lord (the educationist) bonding with the 9th lord (the spiritualist) — both purely Trikoṇa, neither one carrying any other house’s baggage. That combination, the text says, produces extraordinarily good results.

Notice what had to be true before that verdict was earned. Not “Jupiter is in the 5th and Venus is in the 9th.” Not “both are naturally benefic planets.” A genuine bond between them, and nothing else pulling either one toward a difficult house.

The Common Mistake

Most readings skip straight from “here’s a Kendra lord, here’s a Trikoṇa lord” to “Rajayoga” — without ever checking whether the two planets are actually connected.

Two planets can rule the right houses and never speak to each other at all — no conjunction, no aspect, no exchange.

That’s not Rajayoga. That’s two unrelated promises sitting in the same chart, waiting for two entirely separate Dashas.

Before using the word “Rajayoga,” answer these three questions:

  • Do these two lords occupy the same house, aspect each other, or sit in each other’s signs?
  • Is that bond direct, or are we inferring a connection that isn’t really there?
  • Does either lord’s other house ownership fall outside Kendra and Trikoṇa?

Skip these and “Rajayoga” becomes a word people say the moment they spot two decent-looking planets anywhere in the chart.

How to Read Your Own Chart

  1. Open your chart in KPVichar and list your Kendra lords (houses 1, 4, 7, 10) and Trikoṇa lords (houses 1, 5, 9). Your Lagna lord counts as both.
  2. Find one Kendra lord. Find one Trikoṇa lord. Now ask: do they share a house together?
  3. Still no? Do they aspect each other?
  4. Still no? Does each one sit in the sign the other owns?
  5. None of these — there’s no Sambandha, and no Rajayoga, regardless of how the houses look.
  6. Found one — note whether either planet’s other house falls outside Kendra/Trikoṇa. That distinction is what the next śloka in this series addresses.

One Line to Remember

Two good houses connected by nothing isn’t Rajayoga. Sambandha is the test — not proximity, not reputation.

Conclusion — What Changed?

The common assumption: a Kendra lord and a Trikoṇa lord anywhere in the same chart adds up to Rajayoga.

What Laghu Parāśarī actually teaches: the houses alone prove nothing. A real bond — conjunction, aspect, or exchange — has to exist between the two lords before the word “Rajayoga” is earned.
